San Francisco VA Health Care System
About the Wellness Program
Wellness reflects a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that can result in an overall feeling of well-being. The San Francisco VA Health Care System is committed to fostering healthy lifestyles and well-being. We provide opportunities for both staff and Veterans to develop a wellness focus.
The National Wellness Institute defines wellness as an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more healthy and successful existence. To learn more about wellness and the various types of wellness, click here.
A wide variety of activities and programs are available to help each of us to use and develop our skills and energy for improved health and well-being. Some of these include:
All organization events are encouraged to promote the principles and concepts of wellness with fresh, wholesome foods, moderate in fat and sodium, high in nutrients and fiber, with an emphasis on a plant-based diet.
To help promote healthy eating, our Medical Center hosts a weekly Farmers Market on campus every Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., offering local organic vegetables, fruit, nuts, plants, and more!
MOVE! is a national weight management program designed by the VA National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NCP) to help Veterans lose weight, keep it off and improve their health. Learn more.
