San Francisco VA Health Care System
Laboratory Medicine Service
Our goal is to provide high-quality, cost-effective, and timely laboratory services to our Veterans and clinical providers. The Clinical Laboratory services are organized into six sections including: Chemistry/Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Microbiology, Point of Care Testing, Transfusion, and Communications/Phlebotomy.
We provide laboratory and transfusion support for the inpatient services, Heme/Oncology Clinic and Emergency Department. In addition, more than half of our laboratory tests are submitted from patients cared for in the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). We also operate the clinical laboratory at the Santa Rosa CBOC and provide extensive point of care testing services at SFVAMC and at each of the CBOCs.
As part of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at UCSF, we maintain an active teaching program for pathology residents, infectious disease fellows, and medical technology/clinical laboratory science students.
