Alta Thurman served in the US Air Force from 1983 – 1994 as a Medical Technician, later becoming an Instructor for Medical Technicians. After serving in the Air Force, Alta took advantage of her VA Benefits, using the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program to obtain her Nursing degree with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). “My goal has always been to work for the VA. Being a Veteran I’ve always had a passion for helping my fellow Veterans,” said Alta. She started her VA career as a contracted RN in 2013 before becoming a full-time RN six months later. Alta works in our Home Telehealth program, serving our rural Veterans out of the Clearlake CBOC. “Each time I help our Veterans, I’m helping a family member,” said Alta.

Home Telehealth serves many Veterans who have chronic that make getting treatment challenging or inconvenient for them. For some, especially older Veterans, conditions like these can make it difficult for them to remain living independently in their own home. Home telehealth gives Veterans independence, better quality of life, control of their healthcare, and in some cases an alternative to being placed in an assisted living facility. “Telehealth gives our Veterans more options and the power to be part of managing their own healthcare,” said Alta

Thank you, Alta, for your service in and out of uniform!
