The San Francisco VA Medical Center provides overnight, shared lodging accommodations to eligible Veterans receiving health care services. Arrangements must be made in advance by the referring clinic and confirmed by the Veteran prior to arrival. To receive Hoptel lodging, a Veteran must be required to travel 50 or more miles from their home to the VA health care facility.
At the time of lodging, the Veteran must be clinically stable and capable of self-care or be accompanied by a caregiver able to provide the necessary care. VA does not provide nursing or other medical care for temporary lodging beds.
Caregivers may reside in temporary lodging facilities with pre-approval when assistance is required while staying in Hoptel. If a Veteran staying in Hoptel with a caregiver is admitted to an inpatient bed, alternative lodging arrangements will need to be arranged by the family. Minor children may not be accommodated in temporary lodging facilities on VA grounds.
