San Francisco VA Medical Center

Planning for Our Future

Since 1934, the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. We consider it our privilege to serve the health care needs of the more than 310,000 Veterans living in an 8-county area of northern California. We have a long history of conducting cutting edge research, establishing innovative medical programs and providing compassionate care to Veterans.

SFVAMC must plan how to continue to serve our Veterans into the future. We are devoted to providing state-of-the-art health care, conducting important clinial research, and serving as a leading provider of medical education.  As part of our planning process, we have completed a Long Range Development Plan (LRDP)—which for purposes of master planning—outlines the facilities on our Fort Miley Campus, divided into planned phases of implementation. In addition, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been developed in tandem, which describes the environmental effects of the proposed actions and discusses alternatives.

A Finding of Effect (FOE) is being developed for consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office and others about the LRDP’s effects on historic properties. The FOE is available for public review as part of the Cultural Resources Supporting Information Appendix of the EIS.

The community is invited to view the LRDP, draft LRDP EIS, and draft FOE.

There will be a 60-day public comment period for the draft EIS from August 17 through October 16, 2012. Learn more.
