Progress Continues for New Eureka VA Clinic

Eureka coastline, 270 miles north of San Francisco, bordering Humboldt Bay. The Eureka VA Community Based Outreach Clinic is expanding to better serve the needs of Humboldt County Veterans.

Construction continues on schedule for our new Community Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC) at 930 West Harris Street in Eureka. We’re building a new and expanded clinic there to replace services currently provided at the VA Clinic at 713 F. Street. As part of this development, clinic services are transferring from the current management of private contractors, Brian and Nancy Craig, to the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC). The new clinic will open for patients in October.

“Demographic trends and national policy changes have created the need for clinic and programmatic expansion to meet the needs of rural Veterans and are the driving force behind the shift to a VA-staffed model,” said San Francisco Medical Center Director Lawrence H. Carroll. “Meeting the needs of our rural Veterans is a priority, and this new clinic is evidence of our dedication and commitment to our Humboldt County Veterans.”

Current clinic services for enrolled Veterans include primary care, mental health, pharmacy, laboratory test, x-rays, telemedicine, and home-based family care. “This relocation will give us the opportunity to expand and enhance services to include the addition of several new programs in the areas of audiology, optometry, podiatry, prosthetics, and, in the future, physical therapy,” said Carroll.

The VA has enjoyed an excellent partnership with the Craig’s and credits them for helping VA to establish an excellent relationship in Humboldt County.  “We are excited about the opportunity to expand VA services,” said Carroll. “Because of the outstanding leadership of Brian and Nancy Craig, we have established an excellent reputation in Eureka.  I am confident that our new clinic will continue to build upon both the good will and excellent service VA currently provides to our Veterans.”

The VA will work with the current clinic leadership to ensure a smooth transition to the new location.
